2001 Chartering Our Delight

Testers Notebook: Chartering Our Delight
Thanks to upgrades, careful maintenance and an excellent crew, Our Delight is a classic cruiser with very comfortable accommodations and plenty of appeal. We were aboard for a few days while shooting an episode for our new TV series Boats&Places TV - and we'd gladly return any time Captain Bob and his crew will have us.

Our Delight was built in 1961 by the Burger Boat Company of Manitowac Wisconsin. A Hargrave-designed flush deck motoryacht, from our research, this yacht might very well be one of the last steel-hull vessels Burger made. After 22 years of quality steel-hull construction, they switched to aluminium. Originally built as a 92 footer, a 10-foot cockpit was later added, bringing her overall length to 102 feet.
Our Delight's specifications list accommodations for up to eight guests. Guest cabins are located below decks to aft. The master stateroom makes use of the vessel's 22-foot beam and features a king-size bed, large ensuite with Jacuzzi tub, and his and hers hanging lockers. Port and starboard guest cabins include twin berths, plus a Pullman berth, their own head with shower stall and TV/VCR's. All cabins are fully air-conditioned.
On the main deck level, Our Delight offers guests two distinct lounging areas. The large aft deck with canvas enclosure is the perfect spot for al fresco dining, morning coffee or evening cocktails. Inside, the main salon is a great place to get out of the sun, watch a movie, listen to music or put the games table to use. Forward of the main salon, a formal dining room is available for special occasions or buffet dining.
Moving forward on the main deck level of Our Delight, the wheelhouse is the only driving station. Captain Bob Brokaw has a complete array of modern navigation systems at hand including a weather fax, computer with two separate navigation programs interfaced with the two GPS systems, two radar units and the autopilot. Typical of yachts this size, it has a stabilizer system.
The waters of the US Virgin Islands are a welcoming playground for young and old alike, and Our Delight is equipped with enough water toys to entertain and amuse all ages. For water skiing, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, tubing or fishing there is a 17-foot centre-console Mako with 130-hp Yamaha outboard. A 15-foot rigid-hull inflatable with 85-hp outboard is ideal for use as a dive platform or for shore exploration. For those who prefer to provide their own power, there is a beautiful eight-foot wooden rowing dinghy and four lightweight kayaks. All of these water toys, with the exception of the Mako, are kept on the bridge deck which also includes a private lounging area.
Our Delight carries a crew of four. Bob Brokaw is an experienced captain, having cruised the West Coast from Alaska to the Panama Canal and throughout the Caribbean. Bob's wife Lisa Lundt, like Bob, is an accomplished diver, but most importantly has the responsibility of preparing the outstanding meals – her mango grouper is worth the price of the charter alone!
The crew also includes a stewardess and an Activities Director. The Activities Director aboard Our Delight happens to be Bob and Lisa's young daughter Aphrah who after about one minute of shyness later became our best friend for the duration of our charter.
Our Delight is available for charter by the day, week or longer. Typically booked on charter between 13 and 20 weeks per year, an average for most charter vessels, Captain Bob's advice is to book early, usually a year in advance, to ensure you get the week you want.
