Synopsis: The 41 SCB certainly has everything you'd expect in a luxury yacht, except when compared with other yachts in its class - it doesn't have that same luxury yacht price

Jim: For years Maxum's been building runabouts and sport cruisers. But in the late 1990's, they made the decision to start building some larger flybridge models.
This sleek euro-styled 41 SCB is one of the results of that decision.  The swim platform of the 41 SCB is nice and spacious, with plenty of room for a dinghy and lots of space for the kids to be launching their water sports activities. To starboard you've got a swim ladder, to port, some storage and your hot and cold outdoor shower, and in this compartment, access to your shorepower, main battery switches, some fuses, and a phone and cable tv hookup.
The centre position transom door leads you into the cockpit, with easy access through these stairs, up to the flybridge, and sliding glass door into the main salon.
The main salon on the 41 SCB is lovely and bright, because it's surrounded by windows, including this sliding glass door.  Off to port you've got your entertainment centre with television, stereo, a VCR and some storage.  You've got your choice between maple wood or cherry wood with the cabinetry.  Off to starboard, you've got a huge u-shaped dinette.  The dinette has a removable table, and it also converts into a double bed.  The recessed lighting in the salon gives it a nice elegant feel.
The galley is one step down.  What I like about this layout is the galley's open to the main salon, so you're not separated from your guests while you're preparing dinner.   In the galley you've got hardwood floors, a three burner stove, double stainless steel sink, built-in coffee maker and microwave, and a full-sized fridge and freezer.  One step up is the dinette, which offers comfortable dining with a great view.
Three steps down to starboard, you'll find the guest stateroom.  There's a full sized hanging locker, a skylight that gives you some light, and plenty of space in this king-size sleeping area.
Across the companionway from the guest stateroom, you'll find the head, complete with enclosed shower.  Forward is the owner's stateroom.  And here you'll find everything you'd expect on a yacht of this there's a queen sized bed, hanging locker, lots of storage, good ventilation, excellent headroom and elegant recessed lighting.  From here, you've also got direct access into the head.
Up on deck, the walkways are nice and wide, and there's grab rails all the way up to the bow.  Down here in the bow, you've gota built in sun pad, with of course, the all important drinkholders.  You've also got your windlass, anchor locker and a handy feature that Maxum has built into this model - there's a second compartment with a wash down faucet which makes cleaning your foredeck and anchor a breeze.
But the best way to show you the bridge of the 41 SCB is while we're underway.  As Ted's at the helm, I can give you a quick tour.  Off to port, you've got an l-shaped seating area, which is also a sun lounge as well of course you've got a table which is removable, great for those afternoon lunches up here on the bridge, and you've got a wet bar, you've got an optional fridge, cutting board, and drinkholders or bottle holders.  Forward of that, you've got the helm area.  Plenty of room for seating for two, and even for three if you want to be cozy, and Ted, what do you think of the helm?

Ted: It's great, Jim.  There is an awful lot of room here, but more importantly, I like the layout of the helm itself.  Instrumentation is within clear sight, as well as it's angled a little bit so it eliminates glare.  Controls close at hand.  Now this particular boat is equipped with this Ratheon Pathfinder model R170.
This is a complete navigation system in one box.  It's got everything you need, including radar.  The windshield itself deflects the wind really well, but still provides great visibility, and talking about visibility, lots of visibility off the starboard, lots of visibility off the port, but most importantly, take a look over the bow.  I can see the entire bow area and the anchor which is really important when you're manoeuvring in close quarters or when you're anchoring in a crowded anchorage -- Jim?

Jim: One of my favourite areas up here on the bridge, is back here - the sunlounge.  Absolutely great to take advantage of on a nice sunny day like today.  The 41 has a semi-displacement hull that, partnered with Cummins 330 diesels, gave us a comfortable cruising speed of 21 knots.  It was a calm day, so I had to look for some large wake to test the hull's performance in rougher water.  What I found was the semi-displacement hull really cut through, and throws the water aside making for a solid, comfortable ride.
The 41 SCB certainly has everything you'd expect in a luxury yacht, except when compared with other yachts in its class - it doesn't have that same luxury yacht price.
