"There was a time when number one in sales, number one in style and number one in quality meant Chris Craft. Well, times have changed, and with the new strategy of limited production, Chris Craft may not be number one in sales, but when it comes to style and workmanship, the name Chris Craft may very well be on the way to the top again, with boats like this 28 foot closed deck launch.
On the new 28 Corsair, Chris Craft does a masterful job of blending modern building technology, with a look reminiscent of the glory days at Chris Craft. While no wood is used for stringers or coring, there's plenty of gorgeous teak used throughout the boat.
Boarding the 28 Corsair from the dock is easy with these portside entry steps. Although the helm has that yesteryear look, it features many of today's modern conveniences. While the steering wheel has a stainless steel look, it's actually a custom-made padded vinyl, offering good grip and comfort. Rather than cluttering the beautiful, stainless steel dash panel with several gauges of different sizes, this array of five, custom instruments provides all the necessary readouts. While leaving plenty of space for optional electronics and for this well labelled accessory panel below.
The passenger console features a large grab handle, plus this compartment for the Clarion sound system. A nice modern touch is the helm activated power engine hatch, revealing twin 280 horsepower, Volvo 5.7 GIS, mated to Volvo dual prop drives, turning counter rotating stainless steel propellers.
When not in use the canvas stores away neatly, maintaining the Corsair's classic lines. A boat that looks this good is bound to be shared with family and friends, and for entertaining you'll find a cockpit refreshment centre, including a refrigerator, sink and plenty of storage. And guests will feel comfortable and secure on this well padded, aft lounge seat, with substantial stainless steel grab handles.
What looked good many years ago still looks good today, like these full length teak toe rails, leading up to this custom stainless steel step pad, a stainless steel engine vent, and teak inlay over the integrated swim platform. Moving forward with the help of molded steps, this teak walkway along with matching teak handrails, and this stunning, polished stainless steel bow light, complete with penant pole to proudly fly the legendary, Chris Craft bergey.
However, the 28 Corsair is not without its modern touches, like this anchor locker that neatly houses a windless, road and anchor shoe, and aft, a handy transom shower.
The cutty cabin offers room for a change of clothes, or relaxing on the sleeper. Plus, storage cupboards on both the starboard and port sides, and a vacuflush head, not commonly found on runabouts of this size.
While the 28 Corsair is designed to look like no other boat, that is except a Chris Craft, to wear the Chris Craft name, it should perform as good as it looks, and in this regard, the 28 Corsair does the Chris Craft name proud.
Keeping the bow low, the twin Volvos push the Corsair onto plane, in a rapid four and three quarter seconds. Weighing almost 8,000 pounds and with a dead rise of 20 degrees, the hull cruises leisurely, anywhere from 2,600 rpm up to 3,500 rpm, providing speeds from 27 to 40 miles per hour. All the while delivering a solid, dry ride. Making the most out of its ten foot beam, the 28 Corsair maintains excellent stability in hard turns, and while cutting through waves, and crossing lakes. The 28 Corsair is a real pleasure to drive, requiring very few adjustments to drives and trim tabs to obtain the optimum ride. When the occasional need for speed does arise, push the throttles forward and experience speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
From the flared bow, to the tumble home transom, the 28 foot Chris Craft Corsair has a look that's both distinctive and rich in heritage. However, what really sets the Corsair apart is workmanship that will make you proud to show off your boat and performance that'll put a smile on your face."
